I'd recommend using Sublime Text or vim(takes some time to get used to).
Both are excellent editors and available for mac, as well as for other operating systems.

If you post a screenshot of the problem you're running into, we can probably help with it.

I seem to have sorted it, it was something to do with the way i saved it,

Do you know if there is anyway of opening the folder of project and then see all files under that project so can click between them.

i.e
Python (project name)
file
file
file

so it shows all files under the project so i can skip between them in text editor

If you open a folder(File -> Open Folder or Project -> Add Folder to Project...), all the files inside it should automatically be shown in the sidebar.
The same goes for opening .sublime-project files.

If the sidebar isn't showing, you can activate it from the View menu.

Do you know if there is a way of keeping folders in the sidebar, instead of having to open them every time?

thanks

There is also textmate, which is more mac oriented. At least it was when I tried mac a few years ago. Sublime text and textmate share the same format for plugins.

In my honest opinion Nothing beats Notepad++ or Aptana Studio 3
easy to customize and both are free

Aptana has syntax highlighting which for me is more invaluable
then most products that cost and offer much less

for me sublime 1 and 2 just dont feel right for me

also not to rant but i absolutely HATE vim maybe im more mouse+keyboard
I just cannot get around "re-learning" how a text editor works for the purpose
or editing code and if stuck in a console only environment then nano is the way
to go

and also id stay away from anything GTK based and for example
(written in python to edit python) is always a bad idea(in my experience anyways)

but honestly whatever works is the best solution you will feel your workflow
change then you have found the right editor for you

ymmv
