Python/Backend Engineer
NYC

As a Backend Engineer, you’ll be involved in designing, building, and scaling our service¬-oriented infrastructure. Our platform ingests, manages, and processes the services that power the world’s largest public¬-data repository to empower our clients with capabilities to drive data¬-driven decision making by linking both public and private data.

The ideal candidate:
You are passionate about researching distributed systems technologies and stay up¬-to¬-date on the state¬-of¬-the¬-art. You enjoy developing software in an iterative, customer¬-driven way. You take pride in your craft, and place emphasis on design and enjoy building scalable, reliable, data¬-driven software. You’re excited about data’s impact on the world and you are curious, generous and can hustle in a rapidly growing environment.

The role:
You will have the chance to grow quickly within our rapidly expanding company. Your role may evolve as we do, but you don’t fear change; instead, you see opportunity. Strong communication skills are a must, as you will be required to work in a highly collaborative setting. All our engineers share a curiosity about the breadth and scope of problems that data can solve (both for individuals and organizations) and a commitment to building a platform that answers those questions. Qualities we value:
● Can demonstrate competence in one or more of {Python, Go, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Ruby}
● Has exposure to or experience building distributed systems
● Writes comprehensible, maintainable code
● Understands the value of testing and documentation
● Is comfortable developing in/for Linux (regardless of distro)
● Can build RESTful services that are actually RESTful (without going full HATEOAS, because that's crazy town; sorry Dr. Fielding)
● Is motivated by working on hard problems with smart people
