What is the "ideal" python paths setup for Mac OS X?

[Update: I'm editing this post since I received no replies to the original question. Maybe it wasn't clear.]

If you use python on a Mac with OS X, can you explain how you've set up your python path setup and/or show examples?

After reading through multiple documents, loading different kinds of python code, I think my paths are scrambled, but I don't understand which paths are essential and which ones I can delete or throw away.

If anyone knows a good example of a bare-bones python path setup for Mac OS X, that would be great.
