explain your username

Re: explain your username

I was making my first email with my dad, and he asked me for my username.
My school computer username is 19chorton (Graduation year, first initial, last name).
I was making the email for Facebook to be up to date with my Boy Scout's troop page, so I decided to use scout in it.
scoutchorton is what I said. I have used it for about everything, from Skype to Google, except Roblox which I accidentally put myself as a girl, so that is 19chorton.
Google scoutchorton, and the first page is all me :) Thanks Google!

A lot of us use global usernames across the web. My username stays the same regardless of the forum content. Java forums, c++ forums, python forums, linux forums, steam, doesn't matter, iits always metulburr. So it does not make sense to change my identification based on content.

Agreed, outside my professional life as TechfellowTP (my company name and my initials...), I post on a few forums under the name of my favourite comic book character, whatever forum, it remains the same....

Once I did the same on a social site. The received amount of (rather dull) flirtatious messages really made me wonder.

I showed my sister Ingress once, and she decided to get an account. She was sitting there forever setting it up, and I asked her what the problem was. She said "I'm trying to think of a user name that doesn't sound female."

In one online game I play it seems as though half of the server chatter consists of a player asking a player with "girl" in their username whether or not they are actually girls.

Handles come and go, in the late '90s, I was dbCooper but I hung out on #phrozencrew@EFnet.irc and littered the binary newsgroups with their products.
I left PC in 2002 and in 2008, I struggled with a new 'identity' that suited my general disposition and Habitual it is.

I am Habitual everywhere. And I hangout these days at
LQ and LinuxMint and UbuForums , and now here.

I idle lots in
FreeNode-#boto
FreeNode-##python-friendly and
FreeNode-#python-forum

I am currently reading Learning Python, 5th Edition., and getting my skills developed using boto2 over python2.

I am 'late' to the python 'party' but I am highly motivated and since I can get direct feedback
using boto over python2, I skipped to Chapter 4 and dug right in.

Have a Great Day!

"ngulam" is the English transcription from the Thai name of a Python

You guessed right.

DevShed is a little overpowered by b49P23TIvg. He is very knowledgable, but omnipresent.
He seems to have a good job writing Python programs for scientists at the university.

Yeah, I agree. Also, I don't find the python section particularly active (though I haven't been there in a long time now).

I fell in love with the old Atari arcade game Marble Madness (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_Madness) in my teens. Even before that my favorite toy as a child was one of those wooden box mazes where you guide a steel ball through by turning two knobs that tilted the playing surface. I've created simple versions with Blender3D's game engine but I'm hoping to do a sequel soon. I use the same username elsewhere but only for programming forums and sites.

My username story is a bit more boring than most of yours, I'm afraid. I was looking for a name that couldn't be connected to mine (I'm pretty private by nature) and chose "Fred" since I didn't know anyone with that name. I have no idea where "Barclay" came from. I was pretty pleased with my username as it seemed unique and anonymous enough--until I googled the name and found out there is a real Fred Barclay, a British businessman, whom I share a connection with. :o Oh well. So much for anonymity.
I'm pretty active on the Linux Mint forums (hey Habitual!) but I use this name a few other places: Stack Overflow, GitHub, the Debian forums, and IRC.
