Question for Mods

Who keeps doing 1-day IP bans? I don't think that's going to help anything.

I noticed on my other forum, that if i banned spammers for a period of time, they come back a month, 3 months later, 6 months, later. I assume that a permanent ban is best. We only had one confirmed false banning. Which i guess is pretty good ratios to actual spammers. Even if another one was to exist in the future, they can view the forum, and view that the only alternative is to join the IRC channel to get a fix.

A thread describing how moderators should act sounds like a good idea to me. Does anyone have an idea of a good foundation?

Here's what I have in mind:
  • When you see someone post spam, IP ban them. I always do it permanently, but it should be at least two weeks (I believe this is a common IP lease time).
  • Move topics as necessary.
  • Lock the OPs of threads which may be homework.

well i guess maybe this is a good idea, because this never occured to me. Does locking the thread, stop them from deleting their initial post?

Oops! Not the thread, just the post! I do often do subsequent posts though, of the OP. Once someone has a few threads without any issues I don't keep doing it though.

But yes, I believe locking it prevents deletion by non-mods.
