Game Level drawer help!

Postby Seanliu » Sun Apr 06, 2014 10:01 pm

eeh... I want to make a text-only mario-styled game (like Dwarf fortress and a random Plat-Former) because I dont wanna use pygame. The game will hopefully look something like this:

Code: Select all
__________   _______|  (Q)uit
                    |  (H)elp
_______o_______    _|
                    |
____________I_______|

(The 'I' is the player and the 'o' is the enemy.

If you use the WASD keys, the player moves.If the player presses Q or H, the game quits, or opens the help screen (respectively).

Yes. How do I do that? I have shown you the goal, but I have absolutely no idea how to achieve it.

Going by how much you've explained:
Code: Select all
print("""__________   _______|  (Q)uit
                    |  (H)elp
_______o_______    _|
                    |
____________I_______|""")

So you'll have to try to explain better what exactly it is you wish, and what it is you don't know how to do.

He wants to know, how to move the player ("I") with the keys.

The answer depends on how he wants his game to work, which is not something he explained.

The best I could do to help would be quoting what Mekire has told him multiple times:
Mekire wrote:
Code: Select all
while playing:
    process_user_input()
    update_game_state()
    display_updated_interface_to_user()

My point was, we can't give specific answers unless we get specific questions.

If he wants to know how to use characters for control, presumably without hitting enter, then he probably wants curses. But I agree that that isn't entirely clear from his post.
